I applied for a loan and the credit report shows that I have a lien against me for state taxes that I owe.  How do I correct this?

You must contact the Ohio Department of Taxation in Columbus, Ohio to make arrangements for payment of the back taxes.  Once the taxes have been paid the Department of Taxation will forward a release form to you.  Once you receive the release form you must deliver the release to the Summit County Clerk of Courts Office - Civil Division.  The lien record will be updated to show the file date of the release.  Please call the Clerk of Courts office at (330) 643-2219 prior to filing to get the actual amount of filing fee.  Each lien has a different filing fee.

How do I have a lien taken off my credit report once it has been paid?

The Summit County Clerk of Courts does not report to the credit reporting agencies.  The agencies employees review filings and place the liens on the credit reports of individuals.  You should contact the credit reporting agencies directly with questions or copies of releases of liens.  The three largest reporting agencies are:
