AKRON, OHIO— Summit County Clerk of Courts Tavia Galonski and Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich today are proud to announce the success of their 3rd Annual One-Stop Expungement Filing Day with Summit Legal Defenders.

Twenty-nine people attended the four-hour event at the Summit County Courthouse in the Honorable Judge Oldfield’s Courtroom to have their convictions reviewed to be sealed or expunged, as permitted by Ohio law. After checking in with staff from the Summit County Clerk of Courts Office, attendees were able to consult with attorneys from Summit Legal Defenders and the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office to determine their eligibility. Summit Legal Defenders then filed motions to seal or expunge records for those eligible.

“I am once again proud to be the administrator of such a successful program. Just as in our other clinics, we invited citizens out so we could serve them - and we did it as partners,” said Clerk Galonski. “A huge thank you to Prosecutor Kolkovich and Summit Legal Defenders for helping make government work for the people.”

“A past mistake on someone’s record can continue to affect them years later, limiting their access to housing and job opportunities. The Prosecutor’s Office is proud to sponsor this event to make record expungement more accessible to eligible individuals in Summit County and help deserving community members move forward with a clean slate,” said Prosecutor Kolkovich.

“We are excited to be a part of the clinic because justice doesn’t end with punishment; it continues with the opportunity for redemption,” said Andrea Whitaker, Director of Summit Legal Defenders. “These clinics are about giving people a fair chance to build a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities.”

In the past three years, the One-Stop Expungement Filing Day has assisted over two hundred individuals looking for a fresh start.
